Dip problem, - Device or resource busy

Post by Bill Luehrman » Wed, 18 Sep 1996 04:00:00

I have been trying to get dip to run, with a "dipscript"
that I know works (I used it 2 years ago). But now I am
unable to get the thing to even dial.

Upon investigation, I found out that when the script issues
the command "port modem" I get the message "Device or resource
busy". I then tried this using "port cua1" (My modem is COM2).

When both of these failed, I tried using Kermit... same error
message.

I then tried stty < /dev/modem..... same thing.

I also did a ps -ax to see if there were any tasks holding up the
port. There was nothing there that I could see. Perhaps there is
something that is supposed to be running that is'nt?

I know the modem works because am using it to send this message
from a Windoze based mailer.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

You do have  lockfile still laying around in /var/lock or
/usr/spool/uucp .

1. modem: device or resource busy for dip

When I run dip, I get the error "device or resource busy".  I've tried
rc.serial, but it gives the same error.  My drive is partitioned and I
use windoze95, and the dial-up programs work great for it.

I'm new to linux, so I need some concrete filenames to check or things
to do.  Thanks.  (Info by e-mail appreciated.)
