how to prevent "man" generates "cat" pages?

When man runs, it will generates "cat*" pages for faster access
next time, how to prevent this in order to save disk space?

man pages in cat* are formatted and compressed.
to conserve space remove the source in man*.

man* use less space than cat* pages. You should consider removing
cat* rather than man*.

man will only write in an existing directory, so if you remove the
cat directory (usually /usr/man/cat* or /var/catman) then no cat pages
will be created.
