I'm having the same problem. I'm willing to bet it's because the ATI VE
version doesn't have a sound chip built in, so there is nothing to
actually control the sound. The full (stereo) version does have a sound
chip on it, and that one doesn't have that problem.
Right now, I'm unmuting the line-in when I start XawTV (or KWinTV), and
muting it again when I exit. A PITA I know. I'm looking to trade it for
one of the older Hauppauge WinTV PCI cards, which don't have this
problem.
