RH 7.2 && ISA Sound Blaster 16, no sound

Post by Simo » Sun, 06 Jan 2002 20:18:15

Hi all,

I use RH 7.2, but no sound at all.  Pleas help..........tks in advance

My sound blaster 16 isa pnp with win98's config as :
DMA: 1,5;
IRQ 5,
0220-022F
0330-0331
0388-038B

I've read the PNP-howto and try below command:-

root>pnpdump
command not found

root>isapnp
command not found

then i tried sndconifg and got the below output:-
***************************************************
sound blaster 16

I/O port        : 0 x 220
IRQ             : 5
DMA 1           : 1
DMA 2           : 5
MPU I/O         : 0 x 330

/lib/modules/2.4.7-10/kernel/drivers/sound/sb.o:insmod sound-slot-0 failed

Actually, i've tried different options in the settings (irq, mpu i/o...) but got the same output.

My dmesg output as below:-

Ok heres what worked for me, and my soundblaster 16 isa card. Recompile
your kernel without pnp supoort, and with sound support for the sb16.
Also disable pnp support in the bios. Make sure that you have perms for
/dev/dsp, and maybe /dev/dsp1.

You may have the same problem I had.  By the way, the reason commands
like pnpdump didn't work is that they are not in your path - you have to
use /sbin/pnpdump or /usr/sbin/pnpdump as the case may be.

Do    more /proc/isapnp

If that shows something like CTL009e on the first line you need to get
a kernel 2.4.16 or later from www.kernel.org and compile and install it.
The 009e seems not to have been supported in earlier kernels.

I didn't discover this - someone on the net pointed it out to me.
