Most of these were status messages, not errors.

This looks like it's your problem = you don't have svgalib configured to
work with your new video card, and it's freaking out.

*** Try editing /etc/vga/libvga.config - there'll probably be a few lines
you need to comment out, and a few more you need to uncomment.  If you
need help, email me.

[snipped normal messages]

Quote:>FindFile: can't find autoexec.cfg

You don't have an autoexec.cfg file?  Great way to customize things.

Quote:>3 demo(s) in loop
>Playing demo from demo1.dem.
>PackFile: ./id1/pak0.pak : demo1.dem

[snipped] the Packfile things are good messages.

>Segmentation fault

This is a known bug with squake - if you don't have a CD in the drive,
then starting without -nocdaudio gives a segfault.  If it's a big problem,
a quick workaround is a 3 line shell script to check for a CD in the drive,
then to launch quake with or without the -nocdaudio option accordingly.

Try and start up in single user mode, and also set it up so that as few
processes as possible are running. Remember, linux is multitasking,
unlike dos. Running Httpd and Cron would put a drain on your fps,
wouldn't they? ;)

svgalib Quake with Matrox Millenium?

You are an idiot.  Those are the Windows drivers.

He asked about what hosed up his _Linux_ svgalib version of Quake.

As to the other posts here, svgalib detecting the Millenium as an Oak
card just
means it runs in regular VGA mode, no high res available since svgalib
doesn't
support the Millenium (but since Linux GLQuake came out, who needs
svgalib for
Quake anymore?).  I think his problem is unrelated to the video card
anyway,
since I regularly run squake on my Millenium, and it is just as fast (if
not
faster in some areas) as DOS quake.

1. Matrox Millenium and SVGALIB

My friend has a Matrox Millenium video card with 4 MB WRAM, which
works great in XFree86 3.3 (he uses it at 1280x1024x16-bit).  Anyway,
when he tries to run Quake for Linux in console mode (he doesn't like
the X version), which uses the SVGALIB, he can only get a maximum
resolution of 320x480x256.  No doubt, his video card is not supported
by svgalib 1.2.10 and also, it is not supported by the new svgalib
1.2.11 .  Is there anything he can do to get a higher resolution than
320x480x256 ?  I hoping he can get a higher resolution than 320x480x256,
but I'm not too optimistic, since the new version 1.2.11 was just
released
at the beginning of this month, and it STILL does not support ANY MGA
Matrox cards.  I have tried editing the libvga.config file--I put in
many
of the settings in that file that are in his XF86Config file.  But, this
still did not help.  Any help with this problem would be appreciated.
