Turtle Beach Santa Cruz with DSP support?

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz with DSP support?

Post by Ish Ratta » Sat, 26 Oct 2002 23:57:01

Hello,

I am thinking of buying the above mentioned sound card. I have two
questions:

1. Is it supported under Linux? (probably dumb question)

2. Is it better than Sound Blaster Audigy with 1394 SB0090 (as both seem
to be in the same price range of $60.00?

Thanks in advance,
-ishwar

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz with DSP support?

Partly.  Mine did not work reliably with the OSS driver included in
kernel 2.2.20.  That driver also did not have rear speaker support, and
I don't think any of the Linux drivers use the built-in EQ capability.

I ended up buying the commercial OSS driver from:
<http://www.opensound.com/>

The commercial driver works quite well.  I have not tried the rear
speaker support, which is supposed to work, as I bought the card for a
dedicated MP3 box that only plays stereo (the Santa Cruz had the best
noise and distortion performance I could find for under $100).

I understand that the Alsa people have found some info about this card
and have made some progress on improving the free drivers, but I am not
up-to-date on that.  What I've got works so I haven't messed with it.

That I don't know.  IIRC the Audigy wasn't when I bought mine.
