emacs 19.29 error -- esc [ 1 9 ~

Post by Hymi » Fri, 18 Aug 1995 04:00:00

hi there.

i just downloaded emacs-19.29-for-linux from a sunsite mirror.

it appears to be working ok, except for when i start it up. i always get
an error message:

Key sequence ESC [ 1 9 ~ uses invalid prefix characters

i'm not sure what this means, or where it comes from.  it is not in any
.rc files, because i have a 'dummy' account without any.  when i give a
command-line file, it doesn't get loaded.

this happens whether i use the emacs-with-x or emacs-without-x.

i couldn't find anything in the faq, so i thought this would be the place
to go next.  any help would be appreciated. if not, then i'll try the emacs
newsgroups.

thanks in advance.

and lo, there was much rejoicing among the people, as

a little more information --

when i use emacs-19.29-with-x and let it use its own window, there are
no problems at all.  when i use emacs-19.29-with-x -nw, or i use
either emace-19.29 on a console, i get the error.

1. errors with xterm.c when compile emacs 19.29 under Linux 1.2.11

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

hi folks,

thanks go to Patrick Volkerding for pointing me in the right direction
regarding the missing header file i posted about yesterday.
although that got me closer to a shiny new ELF emacs 19.29, i'm having
new and apparently more serious problems.

my setup:
486 DX4-100, 16MB
Slackware 2.2 distribution
Linux kernel 1.2.11
moved to ELF recently

here are  the errors i get with xterm.c, until this point in the
compilation there are no warnings or errors.  as usual, any info/help
is greatly appreciated.

thanks,
