linux problems with conner 1275MB hdd (not simple eide problems)

Post by System Administrat » Wed, 06 Sep 1995 04:00:00

i have a conner 1275MB hard drive and am suffering some very wierd problems
and errors.

these are the problems that are occuring (some may be unrelated to the drive
error):

I have a swap space on /dev/sdb2 and linux hangs the scsi bus and hence the
kernel when doing a big compile (i.e. kernel compile)

my ls listing refuses to display colors as it should and does when i am
running the bootdisk/rootdisk combo.

I have occasional errors with gcc when it looks for the link in
/usr/include/linux for kernel include files.

all programs cant find /bin/bash when they try to run a shell despite the
fact that the file exists and can be executed (another link problem maybe with
/bin/sh?)

before I tried reinstalling everything a few days ago, the kernel compile
would lock up the machine and the syslog revealed read_intr errors
as shown below in the messages file

here is my info

# fdisk reports

Using /dev/hda as default device!

Command (m for help):

Command (m for help): v

(I have no idea what causes that message or how to fix it.)

1. linux on 2nd EIDE HDD as primary on 2nd EIDE controller

Hi to All!
I have a NEC PowerMatev75 w/32MB RAM, and 2 EIDE drives.  They used to be
on the same chain, but when I installed them in this machine I gave each
its own drive controller.  Linux fdisk doesn't see the second hdd, or I
don't know how to tell it the right address.  /dev/hda doesn't work, and
neither does /dev/hdb.  What am I missing?

Thanks in advance!
