RedHat 6, won't login on a Toshiba Tecra 8000???

Post by Sergio Día » Wed, 16 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I just installed redhat 6.0 on my Toshiba Tecra 8000, the
install process went well and there were no probles at all.

From the first time it booted, when I get to the login screen
my keyboard stops responding. I can't key in anything at all.

I think its my keyboard, but maybe the whole thing died?

I don't think so, because I see the HD working once in a while.

Any suggestions???

- Sergio

Mine does this too.  I haven't gotten a good answer as to why yet.
All I can think of is to try disabling the power management features in
RedHat.  I suspect they're the culprit.

Hi Sergio,

Does your system startup with initlevel=5 (XDM) x-interface on startup ? If
yes, try to change the runlevel to 3 in the /etc/inittab.
I am guessing, it may be a problem with the x-startup. If no, I don't think
I can think about anything else.

good luck

1. Dell's Inspiron3500 vs Toshiba's Tecra 8000

Hi All,

I am thinking to buy a slim (or light) and powerful laptop.
I am considering either Tecra8000 or Inspiron3500.
However, I still have a lot of questions on both of them as
I will install win98, winNT and Linux in my new laptop.

Here are my questions:
-Does anyone install winNT or Linux in Inspiron3500? Any problem?
-Do you think Tecra8000 is much faster than Inspiron3500?
-As I am going to use a lot of CAD tools, Do you think Tecra's graphic
card is better?

Any suggestions or comment would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Kawo
