StarOffice-3.1 setup fails on redhat-4.2

Post by Beat Mei » Thu, 04 Dec 1997 04:00:00

                Hello

I tried to install StarOffice-3.1 on redhat-4.2. I unpacked the following
3 tar files:
  StarOffice31-common.tar.gz
  StarOffice31-statbin.tar.gz
  StarOffice31-english.tar.gz

The setup script in the unpacked directory (i.e. linux-x86/bin/setup) fails
with the follwing message:

line1: syntax error at token 'I'
  expected declarator;i.e. File ...

Does anybody know what is wrong???

Thanks

                Beat

Get Ray Curtis' excellent HOWTO at http://www.clark.net/pub/ray ..he was
a lot of help to me.

(p.s. after sd.sh try re-starting bash..it worked for me..)

StarOffice-3.1 setup fails on redhat-4.2

Post by Victor Wagn » Sat, 06 Dec 1997 04:00:00

:               Hello

: I tried to install StarOffice-3.1 on redhat-4.2. I unpacked the following
: 3 tar files:
:   StarOffice31-common.tar.gz
:   StarOffice31-statbin.tar.gz
:   StarOffice31-english.tar.gz

: The setup script in the unpacked directory (i.e. linux-x86/bin/setup) fails
: with the follwing message:

:   line1: syntax error at token 'I'
:   expected declarator;i.e. File ...

Reread StarOfffice README (or INSTALL). There is mentioned that StarOffice
required libc5.4.x. And RedHat 4.2 is shipped with libc 5.3.12.

I've downloaded libc 5.4.33 when I decided to install StarOffice, but first
I've tried to install it without upgrading libc and got precisely same error.
So, get binary distribution of newer libc from nearest sunsite mirror,
put machine in Single user mode and install it.

After that setup should work fine. But staroffice is TOO slow.

: Does anybody know what is wrong???

: Thanks

:               Beat

You probably don't have Libc.5.4.38 installed (setup needs this).
Connect to the newsserver news.stardivision.com and look at the
support-newsgroups there.

I'm using RedHat 4.1 with Metro-X. I just expanded the 3 files
