Problem with tape

Post by Gerald Landhaeusse » Wed, 28 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Hi,

I have got a problem using my tape drive under Linux. If I write files
to
the tape using the "tar -cvf /dev/ftape ....." command everything
workes.
But if I tried to append files to the tape archive using the command
"tar -rvf /dev/ftape ...." the tape begins to work and everything seems
to be
OK. Checking the contense of the tape file with the t-option of tar
a list of all files wrote with c-option apears on the screen but all
files wrote with the r-option are missing. Does anybody know if there
is a possibility to append files to an existing tape archive?

Here is the configuration of my Linux box:
        Colorado dj-20 tape  drive
        2.0.0 kernel
        Slackware 3.0 distribution of Linux

Thanks in advance

        Gerald

Your system does not find the tape during boot phase. For IBM tapes normally
plug them, switch them on, boot up the system and AIX automatically
configures them.

The 220 uses other SCSI cabels than your 320 are they ok. Check the SCSI ID
of your tape - maybe you have other devices using the same ID. Run
'lscfg -v' to display all devices.
