respawning too fast?

respawning too fast?

Post by Bria » Thu, 10 Oct 1996 04:00:00

Perhaps you can help me:

Occasionally, when logging in, I get a message this :

INIT: Id "c1" respawning too fast. Disabled for 5 minutes...

This probably isn't it exactly, but you get the picture. Anyway, the
system usually locks up at this point, and I have to reset it.

Could someone please explain what's going on, and how to fix/prevent this?

Many thanks,
Brian

Hmm, what CPU do you have? I have a Cyrix 486dx4-100 which occasionally gives
the same problem. My 386dx40 used to have this prob. too when running with
its own-compiled 1.3.24 kernel (as provided with slackware 3.0 I believe).

Bram.

1. mgetty respawns too fast: how to fix it?

Hello everyone:
I have an internal modem on COM3 which stops answering calls several times
during the day due to the disabling of mgetty, with the following message:

INIT: Warning Id "S2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

Sometimes this happens so often that the above message appears every 5
minutes, with the consequence that it is not possible to dial into the
machine for long periods of time. The entry regarding the modem in
/etc/inittab is (I have mgetty in /etc):

   S2:03:respawn:/etc/mgetty ttyS2

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem? Thank you.
