I try to connect an external terminal though serial port (RS232) to my
Redhat 6.1 Linux box. I did:
- add "S0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty ttyS0 DT9600 vt100" to /etc/inittab
- Restart init: "init q"
In getty defs there is a line (I did not change anything):
According Text-Terminal-HOWTO it should work, but I can't login.
- The login promt occurs normally.
- After typing my username and ENTER, I can't do anything on the
terminal; it freezes. Not
even the password prompt occurs.
I think, the /sbin/login is never called. Does anybody know, what's the
problem here?
To define the problem closer, I tried the following:
- If I press only ENTER (without entering a username), it clears the
screen and puts again the login promt (as exspected)
- If I use only CAPITAL letters in the username, it warns me a about and
gives another try (as exspected).
- Also rebooting the whole system did not help.
- If the terminal is frozen, I can get back to the login promt by
killing the corresponding getty process.
Any help is appreciated.
