The web page mention steps for upgrading to kernel 2.2.3 under
Mandrake 5.2/5.3, it doesn't say same rpm packages can be
applied for RedHat 5.2.  Can I use the same rpm packages in
ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distributions/mandrake/updates/kernel2.2/RPMS
to apply to RedHat 5.2?

In other words, are rpm packages for mandrake linux interchangable
for RedHat Linux?

I  couldn't find kernel-2.2.x.i386.rpm for Redhat yet, checked
several Redhat mirror sites, no success so far. I need a
newer kernel than 2.0.36 because RedHat 5.2 couldn't handle
the builtin LAN card in my Hitachi Visionbook Pro.

Not an rpm, but detailed instructions to allow you to roll your own.
In particular, it has a link to a crucial configuration file:

1. updating RPM packages with new nonRPM-packages

I need install on my redhat 7.0 the ns2 (network simulator
http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns/ns-build.html). I would like to install in
getting the pieces I need.
This software needs several packages (ex. tcl/tk 8.3.2, otcl).

I have some of this package in my redhat distr (ex. tcl/tk), but the version
shown by GnomeRPM is 8.2(?). Checking the /usr dierctorie I find tcl-8.3.

Questions:
1. the information shown by GnomeRPM is wrong?
2. how can I update the tcl/tk package without having an RPM distribution
(it's enough decompress, make, make install)?
3.about the other packeges (ex. otcl),  could you give me suggestion (ex. is
better decompress them in a tmp subfolder and then give the make command or
put them in the final directorie and give the make command)?

I excuse for the not so clear questions, but I don't have a long experience
in the linux world.

Thanks to all who want to help me
