Cyrix 6x86

Hello,
I don't know how many times this question has been asked on here,
and I appoligize.  I have a Cyrix6x86PR-233MX, and I tend
to get a whole lot of signal 11's when compiling (gcc-2.7.2.3)
and kernel 2.1.125.  Is there a kernel patch or
any kind of fix for this?  Any direction in help will
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

Yup - I've got the PR 166+ myself and had the same problem with RH 5.0
(5.1 doesn't do it).
have a look athe Cyrix686 FAQ at http://gwyn.tux.org/~balsa/linux/cyrix/
you probably also want to grab the set686 program to set the go fast
registers and to also enable the use of HLT which will result in a
massive heat reduction ! *8-)

have you tried upgrading your compiler?  i have a cyrix 6x86 (not the mx
version though) and before recompiling my kernel i had to get special gcc's
to do so for the cyrix processor.  i'd say to to redhat and look at their
errata.  if you dont' use redhat, it should at least give you an idea of
what version of gcc to use.

and btw... you should move over to egcs.  i think it's much better than
gcc.

H

ps -- but then what the hell do i know

If you use redhat 5.0 you need to add the cyrix updates on the cdrom.
I use a cyrix 150+. The new gcc-updates on 5.1 fixed the sig-11 problem

Hope this helps

1. Cyrix 6x86, motherboard, Linux...

There is a local retail shop selling a Cyrix 6x86-P150+ for $459 (!) with a
PCI motherboard.  I use Linux extensivly on my old i486DX-50, and I don't
think I could part with it.  Will Linux run on these new processors/
motherboards??? Would there be any [in]compatibility problems??? Would I need
to patch the kernel for them at all??? (Like the 5x86's did)

Thanx,
Adam Fritzler
