Announcing MiXViews version 1.10 patch level 03 for Linux

Post by Doug Sco » Thu, 03 Jul 1997 04:00:00

This announcement is for the Linux MiXViews users and those who might be
interested in becoming one.

If you don't know about MiXViews but you are interested in digital sound
editing and processing, look at the MiXViews Home Page:

http://www.create.ucsb.edu/~doug/htmls/MixViews.html

This is to announce to all Linux users that a Linux ELF binary of
the newest version of MiXViews, version 1.10 Patch Level 03, is now available
via anonymous ftp from ftp.create.ucsb.edu as

ftp://ftp.create.ucsb.edu/pub/MixViews/binaries/mxv-LATEST-LINUX.tar.gz.

IMPORTANT:
This one fixes the problem some of you had with unresolved X library symbols
when you tried to start the program up.  You don't need a new copy of libIV.so
if you already have it.

FOR NEW USERS:

If you have not downloaded mxv before, you will need some additional
shared libraries on your machine.  Most importantantly, you will need the
shared InterViews library (X toolkit).  You can get a decent copy from:

ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/X11/xapps/iv-3.1-g++2.7.2.tar.gz

There is a copy in the same archive as the mxv binary on ftp.create.ucsb.edu,
too, as:

ftp://ftp.create.ucsb.edu/pub/MixViews/binaries/libIV.so.Linux-ELF.ta...

FYI, here is the full listing of shared libraries used.  Your version
numbers may vary, and most of these should be on your systems already:

        libIV.so => /usr/lib/interviews/lib/libIV.so
        libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6.0
        libm.so.5 => /lib/libm.so.5.0.6
        libg++.so.27 => /usr/lib/libg++.so.27.1.4
        libstdc++.so.27 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.27.1.4
        libc.so.5 => /lib/libc.so.5.3.12
        libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/elf/libX11.so.6.0

I will be on vacation for a couple of weeks, so if you have problems or
questions, send me email and I will respond when I return.

Sincerely,

1. Where to find Solaris 1.1 patches? 100573-03?

Is there any FTP site to find/download Solaris 1.1
(SunOs 4.1.3 & OpenWindows 3) patches?

I'm looking for the specific one "100573-03".

I partly understand that Solaris 1.1 is kind of old, the new
version is Solaris 2.2. I'm wondering why our third-party SUN Sparc
clones vendor gives me Solaris 1.1 instead of 2.2 - the reason
they gave me is Solaris 2.2 is sort of "buggy". Is that true?
Should I upgrade to 2.2?  Or I should wait for new release of
Solaris 2.3, which is due in Nov., I believe.

Thanks a lot.

Ray
