Setting Timezone information.

Setting Timezone information.

Post by Marshall C. Hendrick » Sat, 07 Dec 1996 04:00:00

Hello,

I have been trying to set the timezone in linux for some time to no
avail.  I "know" that you are supposed to use the date command.  While I
can set the time and date, I can't seem to set the timezone it only
calculates the new time in relation to the timezone that I have set.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I have a near photgraphic memory for some things.  I can't help
thinking I've seen this before.  It's not just that it's a "Frequently
Asked Question" (Linux-FAQ Q7.3) but the phrasing of this posting
sounds familiar like it's word-for-word identical to something I read
about 6 months ago.

Is this my imagination or am I entering the twilight zone?

No, you must just have a very good memory.  Here's the entire body

How do you adjust the timezone on Linux ???
I have tried using the date command to no avail.
        Thanks ahead of time.

I guess there must be only so many ways to ask the question....

But seriously, this suggests that the documentation for the `date' command
should mention how to set the time zone.

1. How to set timezone information?

Hi,

Can anybody explain me, how to set timezone information on Linux?
First, I simple set TZ environment variable - no effect,
after I try to play with settimeofday. Sure it set desired time,
but not timezone.

Really this is the honor for me to live near London, but
please bring me back to Idaho :)
