ATI Mach32 XFree86 Problem

ATI Mach32 XFree86 Problem

Post by Stan » Wed, 19 Jul 1995 04:00:00

I wanted to get more real estate on my monitor than my old Trident
9000 would give me.  So I've bought a WinTurbo Accelerator from
ATI, based on the Mach64 chipset, and I've installed the mach64
XFree86 server.

But when I try to start X, I get a blank screen.  Here are excerpts
of my XF86Config file and the transcript of the startx invocation.
Can anyone help out?

1. ATI Mach32 aperture not used in XFRee86

Granted, I'm using an *old* Slackware distribution (2.00) which was bundled
with Personal Computer World a couple of months ago.  (I still haven't forgiven
them for bundling such an old version!)  My problem is with the ATI Mach32
card.  XFree86 refuses to detect and use the memory aperture.  I've removed 4
of my 16 MB RAM, run INSTALL to enable to aprture and put it in the right
place, and apparently, svgalib is able to use it.  XFree86 still only uses a
"64 KB aperture".  Is this fixed in later releases?  Is there something I've
done wrong?
