Post by Luis V Espinoz » Mon, 11 Aug 1997 04:00:00

Hi All,

I am having a problem with my X 3.2. The probelem is when I switch to
another cosnole for login, and I try to return to XFree86 it does
not restore the screen. I terminiate the session with CTRL-C and try
to restart X... And it tells me it can't connect to the server...
Anybopdy have a clue to what the answer may be?

Thanx

X doesn't restore Screen after switching to other Consoles

Are you switching to the vt that you used to start the X session or to the vt
that X uses for graphics?  You might type 'startx' on vt1 to begin X, but it
displays on vt7, etc.  Try switching to the first vt past the ones that you run
getty on. (if you have 6 vts for logins, switch to vt7, etc.)

1. xterm doesn't restore screen after vi or less

I recently installed Slackware 2.0.? after having 1.2.0 installed. Now
when I run either vi or less inside an xterm, the screen doesn't get
restored after I exit. Previously the original screen contents where
restored when I exited these programs. I've done diffs on resource files
and I've used the xterm, bash, vi and less binaries from the original
1.2.0 release. Nothing seems to make a difference. The funny thing is
that when I telnet into my flatmate's machine (he's still running 1.2.0),
now the screen DOES get restored and I'm still using the same xterm
running on my machine!!! So there is a difference if the program is running
inside of bash on my local machine, or over a telnet connection.

TIA (from 1 very confused Linuxer)
