A catastrophic bug has been discovered in:
lilo-22.1-beta6 -- latest as of 10/24/2001.
lilo-22.1-alpha3 and earlier do not have the bug.
The tarballs for these releases were posted on the developer's (my) site at:
http://brun.dyndns.org/pub/linux/lilo in directories alpha and beta
The affected tarballs have been removed from the site.
The bug involves writing more code to the boot sector than is allowed. This
causes trashing of the first partition table entry, with disastrous results if
the boot loader is written to a Master Boot Record, or an Extended Partition.
The bug does not affect systems where the boot record is written to an 'ext2'
