xpm installation: imake error

xpm installation: imake error

Post by Jason Rotun » Sat, 21 Mar 1998 04:00:00

im new to linux so im having a hard time troubleshooting problems that
i'm running into.  im installing xpm so that i can install xforms so
that i can install xisp.  i downloaded xpm-3.4k-linux.tgz to /usr/src and
gunzip and untar it.  then i goto /usr/src/xpm-3.4k-linux/ and try to run
'xmkmf -a' as instructed by the README file.  anyway, i get the following

imake: -DUseInstalled -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config
imake: No such file or directory: No description file.  Stop.

i have no clue what to do from here.  i appreciate any help.

1. How to make Imake know about the Xpm lib?

Hello everybody

After tweeking some of the Makefiles, I managed to compile
static and dynamic libraries versions of Xpm under Sol 2.5.

Since at our site we prefer to save standard config files
and the complete /usr/local directory [to minimize work at
installation of a new Solaris version], we installed
libXpm.so and libXpm.a in /usr/local/lib and Xpm.h in

In the /usr/local/lib directories are also static and dynamic
versions of an Mpeg library and some other locally build libs.

Now I would like that the Imake produced Makefiles reference
Xpm in the /usr/local tree and that the Makedepend utility
finds xpm.h in /usr/local/include. So, any clues how imake
might mimick this behaviour?

Also, could this be generalized to recognize e.g. the Mpeg library?

Much appreciating any advice or pointers.
