Error burning CD's. CDRECORD or SCSI problem ?

Post by Sergio Martínez Gonzále » Wed, 02 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Hello,

I have a problem creating CD's with cdrecord on my SCSI CD-Recorder.

When cdrecord ends to write data and starts to fix them, sometimes it seems that
all the SCSI devices reset, then cdrecord reports 'Input/output error', and the
result is a corrupted CD. This error happens with a ratio of 50% aprox., so I lose
almost a CD for every time I need to record one.

Really I have tried a lot of things without results:
. Recompile the SCSI driver (aic7xxx.o) with the RESET_DELAY set to 15.
. To Prove the tests indicated in the README.aic7xxx.
. Install the last version of cdrecord (previous version was 1.8a25-1)
. To prove differents parameters of cdrecord

Here is all the information I think it can be useful for someone to help me...

THANKS IN ADVANCE !!!! (and sorry for my poor english)

NOTE:
As you will see, the error occurs, after cdrecord says 'Fixating...', then
it seems the SCSI bus reset !!! and cdrecord loses a command or so on...

Error burning CD's. CDRECORD or SCSI problem ?

Post by Eric Y. Cha » Sat, 05 Feb 2000 04:00:00

This is not a problem with cdrecord.  It is a problem with a
flaky SCSI chain.  The SCSI driver senses this and forces a
reset.  Really, the SCSI driver code should be more robust,
and it should not attempt a reset during this critical time.
The same thing happens to me (but less often).  It is caused
by one flaky device that has nothing to do with the CDRW
drive.  Simply removing this device solves the problem, but
it is inside the computer, so the computer must be opened
(and of course, shutdown and rebooted).

1. cdrecord only simulates burning cd's

Hello,
I want to burn cd with suse linux 7.2. Everything worked fine
(installation) but my cd writer only simulates burning. First i tried
to work with xcdroast (no, i have not pressed the simulation button),
but it did not work. Then i tried to use cdrecord on a console, but my
cd writer still simulates burning instead of burning.
I have got an acer 8x4x32 ATAPI CD-RW with 2 MB. Is it because my CDRW
is not supported? Or am I doing something wrong?

The following output is generated by cdrecord:

Please give me a hint, where the mistake could be.
