Getting the 'boot:' prompt

Getting the 'boot:' prompt

Post by Mark Bak » Thu, 07 Mar 1996 04:00:00

Because I run Win95, I boot into Linux with a floppy.  This floppy
contains only the kernel.

The power went out in my home recently, and now Linux won't boot.
It hangs somewhere in rc.d after complaining about some filesystem
troubles.  So I thought I'd just boot single-user and fix it up.
The problem is that the floppy doesn't give me the 'boot:'
prompt, and rebooting from my linux partition (after making that
partition active) gives me 'LIL-'.

Any ideas on how I can get back in?

Thanks in davance.

I had the same problem before.
The problem is it can not mount the filesystem on the /.
The filesystem is not damaged.
So I just install and configure the kernel by boot and root disk.
This may be not the best way. At least you can repair it.

What my question here is:
I have X window, but my mouse pointer is always one character left
of the actual position.

Can anybody help me?

1. Can't boot lilo, getting 'Press a Key to Reboot'

Hi,
I just installed Slackware 3.0 and put lilo in the MBR.
When the machine tries to boot I get:
  Press a Key to Reboot.

Who is putting out this message? Is it lilo? Did my install
of lilo not work?  I let the setup program do it.  There is
no other OS on the machine.

I can only boot from the lilo floppy I made.
Thanks for any help.
