Backup with Dump / Restore fails

Backup with Dump / Restore fails

Post by Oliver Jehl » Fri, 08 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Hi

I backup my system with the Dump command. The problem is, i can
start the restore but he always complains bad name to addentry

When i start restore with the opion -i and make a ls, i can see the
directory
and the file i want to restore

restore > ls httpd
/usr/local/httpd:
 434225 ./        446482 cgi-bin/  608301 htdocs/  1017881 include/
 266241 ../       434368 etc       743447 icons/    780463 users/
restore>cd httpd/htdocs
restore> add index.html
bad name to addentry ./usr/local/httpd/htdocs
abort? [yn]

Is there a bug in dump/restore ???? The size of the Filesystem is now
2,1 GB...
Is it possible, that dump/restore has a problem handling filesystems
greater 2 GB ???

Thanks for helping

Oliver

Check the man page for restore.  Apparently you can only add
directories, not individual files.  This seems very different
from the dump/restore commands I am familiar with from the
SunOS and other forms of Unix.  You can add directories without
a problem.  I haven't tried to extract.

You might consider using tar instead of dump.

1. help. restoring a backup dump/restore

Hi
I'm having problems with restoring a backup that has been made with dump

It's a redhat 6.1 machine
I want to restore the files on a redhat 7.1 machiene

cd /space
restore rf /dev/ht0

#(very long list)#
#and then half way#

Mount tape volume 2
Enter ``none'' if there are no more tapes
otherwise enter tape name (default: /dev/ht0) none
Warning: End-of-input encountered while
./data/data/fromcvs/development_2/com/data/support/producerconsumer/java/tes
t/CVS/Root/file
entry type: LEAF
inode number: 4214662
flags: NEW
abort? [yn] y
dump core? [yn] n

The backup went well on the machine where the backup was made if i need to
believe dump.
You whould realy help me with an tip/solution on this one :)
Maybe the syntax `restore rf /dev/ht0` is not the right way ?
