Sounds really nice. However, is there any information on how to
actually make the menus appear? I have tried numerous approaches, but
I can not get any menus to appear. Any magic buttons to activate them?
Any magic command line parameters? Any magic entries in .Xdefaults (I
have tried the menu setting, but have not gotten it to work).

Could somebody post an example of some simple dummy menu that should
appear in a normal rxvt shell (without any applications running)?

Thanks in advance..

Marius

I was confused by this for quite a while. Menus are a compile-time option.
The default makefiles have menus turned off. I found the documentation to
be less than clear on this point. I haven't tried 2.4.5 yet--that's the
way it was for earlier versions. I wish I could tell you exactly what to
modify to turn on the menus, but I really don't remember what I did.

From src/feature.h:

/*------------------------------MENU BAR--------------------------------*/
/*
 * Choose how many of (experimental) menuBars you want to be able to stack at
 * one time.
 *  A value of 1 disables menuBar stacking.
 *  A value of 0 disables menuBar all together.
 *  Note that the amount of memory overhead is the same for any value >= 2.
 */
#define MENUBAR_MAX 8

/*
 * Change the default shadow style
 */
/* #define MENUBAR_SHADOW_IN */

/*
 * Change the default shadow style
 */
#define MENU_SHADOW_IN

So it seems the new default is to have the menubar activated. I still
have not been able to get rxvt to show any menus, though.. Thanks for
the info anyway.

You have located the source of my previous confusion. The lines you quoted:

Quote:> #define MENUBAR_MAX 8

> /*
>  * Change the default shadow style
>  */
> /* #define MENUBAR_SHADOW_IN */

> /*
>  * Change the default shadow style
>  */
> #define MENU_SHADOW_IN

are *not* sufficient to turn on the menubar. You need to run configure
with the option --enable-menubar, as another poster pointed out. Sorry I
didn't remember all this the first time.

1. rxvt-2.4.5 is available!

Hola,

This is an announcement of the new official release of rxvt, an colour
terminal emulator for X11.  The version number is now 2.4.5 .
It is available at
        ftp://ftp.math.fu-berlin.de/pub/rxvt

Rxvt has the following features:
        - uses autoconf
        - rxvt is fully compile-time configurable.  Without any features,
          the binary under Linux/i386/elf is about 70K.
        - Kanji support (Japanese Fonts)
        - big5 support (Chinese Fonts)
        - Colour support
        - rxvt supports different ways of character attribute handling.
          You may display 'bold' by real bold fonts, overstrike fonts or by
          a color of your choice.  Same holds for underline.
        - background pixmaps -- loadable and scalable at runtime.
        - Drop down menus (menu-bars).  Those are runtime configurable.
        - Active development and support team

For more information on rxvt (like change log, mailing lists, bug reports,
etc.) please check out the rxvt home page
