Linux RH5.2 i486 works like a charm
(I upgraded to the latest pilot-link, but the stock one worked fine)

Since I don't know anything about your background, I'll give a bit
more cautious answer than some others I've seen.  Pilot-link is a
low-level communications package that understands the hotsync
protocol, and some basic applications to install databases, backup a
Palm device, and so forth.  It is not a general-purpose Palm desktop
package.

That said, it works *great* for its intended purpose -- I use it
daily.

But most of the applications I'd really like to hotsync to my Palm
(Gnome calendar, for instance) don't have conduits, so I don't really
do normal hotsyncing.

It works well for me.

You might want also to check into a program called "jpilot".
that works with pilot-link. It provides a GUI and lets you some editing
of your pilot data.

pilot-link is at the core of the Palm OS connectivity for
Linux, and it does work very effectively in my experience.
The package contains a whole pile of command-line tools for
doing various things with the Palm devices - installing
apps, fetching memos, etc.. I've been using it for some time
on my x86 box although I've no experience of it on the PPC
platform I'm afraid.

There are now several very good graphical tools to work with
your Palm too. My personal favourite is PilotManager, which
is based on Perl and is very very good (it needs pilot-link
to be there, though). KPilot and jpilot have also been
recommended by various people; newer versions of StarOffice
can also sync directly with a Palm OS device.

Hello, Jason from LinuxPPC here. :)

I just tried KPilot, and was delighted that it worked! The only tweak I
needed to do was to link /dev/ttyS1 to /dev/pilot. I could have just as
easily used ttyS1 as the setting, but why bother when I can make a cool
sounding symbolic link? :)

Ditto the new Applixware.

I'll try to find PilotManager for PPC and see how it works.

1. Using pilot-addresses (part of pilot-link)

Is there a trick to using the pilot-addresses program that's
part of pilot-link included in Red Hat 7.2 ????

The pilot-xfer program seems to work fine as I've been able to
backup the Palm Pilot and have been able to install new programs.

My next step is to try to upload a flat file database of addresses
that I exported out of another database.

It seems that no matter what options I provide I get the following
error immediately:

$ pilot-addresses  -w addr.txt
   Port: /dev/pilot

Please press the HotSync button now...
Connected...
Unable to open AddressDB

Any suggestions?
