Redhat Motif 2.0.1 + Slackware 3.1 = ?

Post by PKMD » Wed, 04 Jun 1997 04:00:00

Hi all,

I have slackware 3.1 on my PC and tried to install Redhat's Motif 2.0.1
- then the following message appears:-

can't read from /usr/lib/rpmrc

Has anyone encountered such a problem? I would really like to know what
is the next step to take - other than purchasing a Redhat Linux...

Thanks,
Roland

Well since Redhat's Motif is designed for you use with RedHat linux, it
needs the RPM program that RedHat uses, you can get RPM and install it
under slackware though.

I presume that Red Hat Motif 2.0.1 is a .rpm file?  You need to either
get rpm2cpio (and convert it to a cpio archive, which you can extract
normally) or install rpm properly on your system (which includes configuring
the rpmrc and setting the permissions on it).

If worst comes to worst, you can download Red Hat for free or order it
for less than $10 from Cheapbytes (http://www.cheapbytes.com).

Hope this helps,

  Sumner

You need redhat. (Or at least, rpm.) That will generate the needed
rpm-related files.
