irritating "New mail for ... has arrived:" messgae

I'm using getpop3 to get my mail from my ISP's POP server,
and everytime it gets new mail, I get an irritating beep and
message in *all* my xterms.  For example:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

+OK Pop server at powergrid signing off.
xavier:~>

----

Subject: Hello!

Dear Steve,

How are things going with you lately?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

How can I turn this messgae off?

(2.0.0)

Steve

Thanks to AA (I got an e-mail response within minutes of posting):

Try adding "biff n" to your "~/.profile", or "~/.bashrc" file, if you
use BASH as your shell. If you use (T)CSH, you should add this
command to either "~/.cshrc", or "~/.login" file.

looks like you're being biffed! put "biff n" in your .profile to turn it off
(or more likely, find the "biff y" which is lurking in one of your shell
startup files and remove it.) Of course, which startup files are being used
depends on your shell and whether you're using the loginShell option to
xterm.

You don't want to put any biff commands where they might be run by a
noninteractive shell, because in that case it'll complain about not having
access to a tty.

If you're the only user of the machine, or your other users share your
dislike of being biffed, just take in.comsat out of inetd.conf and be done
with it.

I have the same annoying message in mime format. I wanna have the biff
you got mail but I don't want the whole header of the message..

Thanx,
Andre
