Very Computer

When I attempt to execute any files in /usr/openwin/bin, I get an error message about being unable to find //libX11.so.3 (yes, with _2_ slashes).  /usr/i486-linuxaout/lib/libX11.so.3 is a link to /usr/i486-linuxaout/lib/libX11.so.3.1.0.  This is included as a library path in /etc/ld.so.conf.  Does anybody know what is wrong?  I completely re-installed openwin 3 times, and each time produced the same errors.

IT IS!  That's all done automatically when openwin is installed.  Nothing works, though.
