Any source codes to parse MP3, AAC, WMA/ASF, audio/music files?

I am looking for simple source codes in C which parse audio/music
files in formats like MP3, MPEG-2/4 (AAC), WMA/ASF, RealAudio G2, etc.
I am trying to learn the format of the files.

1. WMA audio files on XMMS??

Can linux audio player like XMMS under Redhat 6.1 play WMA audio files?
I tried changing the available settings like mpeg1/2/3 setting to read
file instead of file extension still not luck.  Is the WMA only a
Microsoft audio format??

I used CD-RIPPER called AudioGrabber on NT to rip these WMA audio files.
I assumed XMMS could read
these WMA files or am I trying the impossible??

cheers
