Running abuse under X

Post by Ray O'Lear » Mon, 09 Sep 1996 04:00:00

Hello,

Whenever I try to start abuse (abuse.console), all goes well until I get
this message:

Not running in graphics-capable virtual console.

I using the Accelerated-X server and RedHat Picasso with the 2.0.15
kernel.  How do I start a graphics-capable virtual console?

TIA,
Ray.

Well, when you're running X, you're not running at the console, are
you?! :-)  Use the X11 version of abuse.

abuse.console wants to run outside of X Windows.  You could try
Ctrl Alt-F1, then run it . That runs some SVGA Console  games.

Or run 'xabuse' in X-Windows. This is a X-windows program.

Have fun

Sounds like it doesn't realize you are running X.  It seems to be trying
to run SVGA version.  Just a guess, tho'.

1. Doom + Abuse + Abuse + Chess + EMACS + Netscape = no problem!

This is when I noticed what was cool about linux.

I had doom running
I had abuse running
I had another abuse running (similar action game)
I had GNU chess running.
I had EMACS running.
I had a program I wrote in emacs running
I had gcc compiling
I had emacs running.
I had two FRACTINTs running with colors cycling.
All this under Xwindows!
(granted I had 32 megs of RAM to play with)

Doom never slowed down. Doom slows down all by itself in Win95! All things
should be measured in DOOMs.  There should be a SpecDOOM.  How many dooms can
you run before it slows down. From now on all speed comparisons shall be
measured in dooms. Its perfect, you get video card readings, integer and
floating point math, sound system.  Everything gets a workout. :)

What kinda SpecDOOM does OS/2 get these days?
