Getting JPEG dimensions

Post by Tim » Thu, 11 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I am looking for a tool that reports
the dimensions of a JPEG. I don't
what view it, or see it, I just want
to know the width and height.

I see a LOT of tools when I search
for JPEG and linux, but they don't tell
me if they have this feature.

Anybody know of one?

thanks,

tim

The 'mogrify' component of ImageMagick reports files thus:

~ $ mogrify -verbose ~/1670-80.jpg
~/1670-80.jpg 589x768 PseudoClass 65536c 93kb JPEG 2s

There are doubtless many other ways though

The Independent JPEG Group provides
such a tool.

ftp://ftp.uu.net/graphics/jpeg/jpegsrc.v6b.tar.gz

Compile this and you have among others the tool: rdjpgcom

example:

rdjpgcom -verbose bill.jpg
JPEG image is 598w * 340h, 3 color components, 8 bits per sample
JPEG process: Baseline
