More on RedHat rpm and 4.2

Post by Dan Sawye » Sun, 16 Nov 1997 04:00:00

This is a bit of an ongoing saga.

The plot to here is: In the middle of trying to upgrade to 2.0.31 on
RedHat 4.2. The source is the rpm's from RedHat. (What is the reason why
the straight sources won't work?)

Anyway, the source seems to be installed, however 'make zImage' results
in:

scrips/makedep: no such file or directroy

?? What is missing?? How can it be found/fixed??

Thanks,
Dan

There is no reason.  grab v2.0/linux-2.0.31.tar.gz and and
testing/pre-patch-2.0.32-5.gz from ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel, unpack
the source, apply the patch, and compile away.

Make sure you are putting the new kernel source in a different
directory from the old source.  Then simply 'rm linux' and create a
new symbolic link to linux:

rm linux
ln -s linux-2.0.31 linux
cd linux

Then follow README to configure, compile and install

1. RedHat 4.2 'rpm' whoo's

Hello,

In an attempt to move from kernel 2.0.30 to 2.0.31 on RedHat  rpm as
ended up in a 'mixed' state. The master or control lib thinks the rpm is
installed, however the directory is backed up to 2.0.30. Attempts to
unload result in the massage ... not loaded. Attempts to load the rom
file result in the message ... loaded.

In this state rpm won't do anything. How can it be 'cleared' back to a
state where the source can again be laoded?

Thanks.

Dan
