I am interested in trying out IRC and am a little confused in choice
between the different programs.
Any advice on a good program that is easy to set up and use, preferably
in X (but this is not essential).
Thankyou

I strongly advise Zircon.  It has a very easy user interface, for
which it uses Tcl/Tk.

I was hoping for some biased opinion from readers as to their preferred
IRC client choice.

*X is nice. It is a ircII type irc client with color support and many
other features. There is a ircii-pana*.tar.gz at sunsite or you can get the
latest version from http://www.veryComputer.com/~pionh

I personaly (sp) use nothing but ircII.  not an x client, but I find it
suits my need perfectly.  You will have to try some things out and pick
what YOU like best
