Help - PCMCIA Ethernet Card

Post by Valentin Prytkov - b-test » Sun, 14 Apr 1996 04:00:00

Hello -
I use Linux 1.2.13 ( Slackware 3.0 ) on a notebook.
I've got PCMCIA card :RPTI EP400 Ethernet Card ( irq 3, ioaddr 0x300 )
and try it on several different laptops
with the same result - pcmcia package : pcmcia-cs-2.6.3
recognizes controller, and displays slot status correctly ( I think so ) :
$ cardctl status
Socket 0:
  card present, ready, write protect
Socket 1:
  no card

But when I try 'cardctl config' it reports :
$ cardctl config
Socket 0:
ioctl(): I/O error
Socket 1:
ioctl(): No such device

If I try cardmgr program ( just as at machine startup ) it writes to log
( prefix of messages skipped ) :
starting
watching 2 sockets
Initializing socket 0
socket 0: RPTI EP400 Ethernet Card
executing ' .. skipped ../net/8390.o'
executing ' .. skipped ../pcmcia/de650_cs.o'
no dev info for socket 0
de650_cd: ParseTuple: Unknown error code

The card normally works when I boot dos with novell drivers.
So, the question is :
- what about pcmcia-cs-2.6.3 and Slakware 3 combination ?
    any good expierience ?
- is there patch for the card I mentioned ?
- is there any hint in system configuration ?
- should I use another tools for PCMCIA cards ?
- any other help ?

                                                    ^^^^^
Upgrade to version 2.8.9. That solved my problems with the same card.

1. Help: PCMCIA ethernet card IO init fails

I've got Red Hat 6.0 newly installed.

In my /var/log/messages file, the PCMCIA startup
looks good, including the following message, which
is correct about the card I have:

cardmgr[316]: socket 0: KTI -PE520 Plus Ethernet

However, when it gets to the second insmod call:

cardmgr[316]: executing: 'insmod
/lib/modules/2.2.5-15/pcmcia/pcnet_cs.o'

kernel: pcnet_cs: RequestIO: No more items
cardmgr[316]: get dev info on socket 0 failed: No such device

What's up? the Linux Ethernet HOWTO says pcnet_cs is the right
driver for the KTI.

The card clearly isn't visible, network stop/start fails.
