Minor RedHat 5.1 Question...

Minor RedHat 5.1 Question...

Post by Chris Schult » Wed, 10 Jun 1998 04:00:00

I just finished installing RedHat 5.1 without any problems, and I've got
a silly question on my hands.

What's the best way (only way?) to change the default compiler over to
egcs from gcc, now that egcs is included with RedHat? I compiled
WindowMaker 0.15.0 with the default setup, and everything is still setup
to use gcc, but I'd rather use egcs, since I've heard that it's cleaner
and more efficient. I'd like to be able to use egcs by default instead
of specifying it in every Makefile or configure script.

Thanks in advance,
Chris.

<as root>

cd /usr/bin
mv gcc gcc.orig
ln -s egcs gcc

be sure to undo this before you make any changes to egcs or gcc via rpm.

1. RedHat 5.1 Questions and Linux Questions ?

Hi there,

I have following questions to ask about my newly installed Linux.

1) How can I enable Telnet access for root under RedHat 5.1? (It's just my
intranet experimental system, so security is not a problem)

2) Sometimes, when I configure some configuration files in Linux (/etc/*), I
want to know exactly what it does and its command. How can I use "man" to
search it.

I had tried "man resolv.conf", "man network". The man program always said
that there are no those text here.

Please kindly reply me via email.

Regards,
Edward.
