Problems with maple after upgrade

Post by Bernhard Ra » Sat, 06 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Hello,

    I just upgraded my computer from Linux RedHat 4.2 to RedHat 5.2.
Ever since, my 'maple' (or, to be more
specific, my 'xmaple') doesn't work properly.  I can start it and do
regular computations just fine.  If I want to
graph something (i.e. if I want 'xmaple' to open a new window for the
graph), a core file is written and no window
pops up.  'xmaple' keeps running and doesn't seem to be affected by this
at all.

    I probably just forgot to install one or more rpm's, however, I have
no idea which ones and how to find this one
out.  Any idea what to do?  Is there an easy way to 'read' the core file
and trace back the error?  Well, any input
is appreciated.  Thanks,
    Bernhard

Problems with maple after upgrade

The problem is redhat 4.x is a libc5 system
redhat 5.x are libc6 (also known ad glibc) system
backward compatibilities do not work very well...
you need software compiled against libc6

Weird . . . I don't think I've ever had a problem running Maple . . .
started with redhat 4.0

I seem to have the problem where the entire program core dumps and does not
keep running every time I try to save a file.  I have already tried
installing libc5 on my system to correct the problem but it hasn't changed
a thing, so I don't think that is the problem.
If anyone has another suggestion, please let me know.

Have you installed the libc5 update from redhat?  You might try
installing it and any other updates from updates.redhat.com.

1. Maple problem after upgrading to slackware 3.5

After I upgraded my slackware from old version (It is hard to say which
version, actually it has been gradually upgraded with various libs and utils,
and the kernel is 2.0.28) to 3.5 (kernel 2.0.34), the my maple program worked
fine in text mode, but had problems when it was started in X mode. More
specific, it generated the information such as following (all the info was
similar, so only part of it is posted)

Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfInsert
Warning: ... found while parsing 'c m <Key>osfInsert:copy-primary()'
Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfInsert
Warning: ... found while parsing 'c a <Key>osfInsert:copy-primary()'
Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfInsert
Warning: ... found while parsing 's ~c ~m ~a <Key>osfInsert:paste-clipboard()'
Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfInsert
Warning: ... found while parsing '~s c ~m ~a <Key>osfInsert:copy-clipboard()'
Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfSelect
Warning: ... found while parsing '~c s ~m ~a <Key>osfSelect:key-select()'
Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfSelect
Warning: ... found while parsing '~c ~s ~m ~a <Key>osfSelect:set-anchor()'

After this, the input window showed up, but keys were messed up. For example
the backspace key did not delete a character but move cursor forward one
space. I have checked the libs used by the Maple on the old slackware, which
showed that the new slackware (3.5) has the same lib versions. I know this
might be a tough question, but I do hope that someone there has the knowledge
or experience on this issue. Thanks.
