1.3.64: top & ps report 'floating point exception'

Hello All!

since upgrading to kernel 1.3.64 (a.out) when running top and ps (with
parameter 'u') i get the error msg: 'floating point exception'.

ps without any option works fine, but with option 'u' (to show user processes i
think) i get this error.

after using strace, i'm not much wiser. I don't really know what to look for.
All appears to be fine until at the end, i see some mention of 'received
SIGFPE' which is a some sort of signal i gather (I am really no wizzard in
these things).

Can someone offer help?

Vlaamse groeten,

Tom

Upgrade to the 0.99 version of psutils.

I have exactly the same problem here with 1.3.68.  I'm running a 486dx
33mhz.  I've tried with and without floating point emulation in the
kernel (not that it *should* matter on a 486dx <grin>), no change.  I
haven't encountered anything else that gets the error yet.

Also looking for clues...

Have you grabbed the latest procps (procps-0.99.tgz?) from your
local Linux mirror?

1. 'floating point exception' when running top

Here's my situation...

I do a slackware 3.0 install, everything works well.  So far I've compiled
both 1.3.60, 1.3.66, and 1.3.67.  All aspects of the make, and install go
flawlessly.  After booting to the new kernel, 'top' will give a 'floating
point exception' as well as 'ps -u'.  These are the only commands that are
affected as far as I know.

I'm open to any suggestions anyone may have regarding this problem.

Also, if anyone is having problems installing ppp v2.2.0e, get the patch
from sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/Incoming.  It works.
