Lilo on /dev/hda , but /boot on /dev/hdb1

Hi all,

Please help me with this Lilo problem.

I set up a dual-boot of win98 and Rh 7.2 using Lilo.  All my Windows
stuff is in hard disk 1 (/dev/hda), and Linux is in a separate disk
/dev/hdb.  The /boot dir is in /dev/hdb1.  Lilo was installed in the
MBR of hda (boot=/dev/hda).  All worked fine.

Then a few days ago, I replaced the Windows disk (/dev/hda) with a
larger one and used Ghost to copy everything in.  Then run  /sbin/lilo
again.  Now when I reboot,  all I get is one "L".

According to the Lilo doc, seeing one 'L' means  /boot/boot.b failed
to load. Any idea how I can fix it?  Do I need a new boot.b?

Thanks.

The second stage loader is not being loaded.

Very possibly BIOS device codes have changed in an unexpected way.

What is your output from "lilo -v5 >log.txt" when you install the new boot
loader?

Thanks.  You are right.  As I went thru the lilo doc, I remembered
that lilo relies on BIOS info, so I went thru the BIOS settings and
found that, for some reason, the second hard disk was turned off in
the BIOS.  As soon as I turned it back on, lilo worked fine again.

1. LILO, DOS on /dev/hda1, LINUX /dev/hdb1

How must LILO be configured to successfully boot Linux, when drive
hda is totally DOS, and drive hdb is totally Linux?  If boot is from
BMR (hda), it tries to load Linux from hda -- of course it fails.  If boot
is from root Linux (hdb), it doesn't even see it (never looks);
boots straight from DOS.

There must be a parameter somewhere....
