RH 7.1 disk1 doesn't install - could not find file

Post by Christoph Kukulie » Wed, 25 Jul 2001 19:56:09

I downloaded seawolf-i386-disc1.iso, wrote it to CDWR
and tried to install. Booting was ok, I chose ENTER )graphical setup.
Kernel booted (little linux mascot in upper left corner), switched to blue,
but then a message at the bottom appeared: exec: could'nt find ...

Any ideas? That was from ftp.redhat.com.

It could be that your cd-rom isn't supported.
(USB-CD-RW ? FireWire CD-ROM?)
so your image (the kernel etc. gets loaded, but
the other files on the CD can't be accessed.
Try a standard ATAPI-CD-ROM for
installation.

Otherwise, check your iso-file with md5
md5-checksums should be available
on ftp.redhat.com. Thus, you can
detect any file corruption on download

I have had problems installing anything from CD - you might be better of
making a boot disk and installing from the HD. RH 7.1 will install from
the iso image.

1. RH 7.1 Install doesn't recognize CD-ROM

Hi folks,

Hopefully someone here smarter than me can figure this one out.  I'm
trying to install RH7.1 on an old computer.  I burned the RH CD's
using Nero Burning Rom. And I created the boot disk with rawrite (just
like the instructions on the RH site said).  Everything seems to go
fine up until it asks me "What type of media contains the packages to
be installed"  I tell it local CDROM and immediately it tells me it
cannot find a RH CDROM in any of my CD-ROM drives.  It doesn't look
like it even tries to access the drive (at least the little green
light doesn't come on).  There is no operating system on the computer
and I cannot boot from the CD drive.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks!

-Tom
