cpp: Out of file descriptors?!

Post by Jonathan Harvey Wheat » Thu, 08 Feb 1996 04:00:00

Hi all,

I'm trying to compile fvwm2 but am having a problem when I try
to run xmkmf. I get the following output:

qlweasel:/usr/local/src/fvwm# xmkmf
mv -f Makefile Makefile.bak
imake -DUseInstalled -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/2.7.2/cpp: Out of file descriptors
imake: Exit code 2.  Stop.

        I'm using gcc-2.7.2, binutils-2.6.0.2, libc-5.2.18. Anyone
know if this is a bug, a feature, or some other problem? Thanks for
any help.

Jonathan

The problem was I downloaded the wrong gcc-2.7.2. Sorry for
any inconvenience.

1. cpp gone in 4.0 (Was: cpp vs. m4 for .s files)

This is true, but cpp is also shipped in /usr/ccs/lib/cpp because the
regular preprocessor changed the way it handles some constructs.  If
you have code that uses cpp on non-C files, you need to use this
instead of cc -P or cc -E, since the other way will fail (see gdb
or emacs for an example of this).
