fsck reports a bad superblock. How do I fix it?

`fsck /dev/sda' reports:

e2fsck 0.5a, 5-Apr-94 for EXT2 FS 0.5, 94/03/10
fsck.ext2: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sda
Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock.

Fortunately, my main disk is /dev/hda so I can still work but there is a lot
of stuff on the SCSI disk that I spent a *lot* of time downloading from the
internet.

Is there a way to repair the disk?

Thanks
