Make modules does not work for 1.3.55 or 1.3.59

Post by Donald Lin » Mon, 29 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I am currently running the slackware 3.0 installation.  For this
installation, I upgraded from 2.1.13 to 3.1.20.  I tried to upgrade
to 1.3.55 and 1.3.59, and was successful in building a new kernel which
I reboot with....Then, I went to /usr/src/linux and typed ' make
modules' , and none of my various modules such as ppp.c would compile.
I did not get any error messages, but the script would just visit my
various directories without compiling anything.  So, I backed everything
out to 3.1.20.  This procedure by the way worked fine for
3.1.20.........

TIA, Don

You need the new modules-1.3.57 package from tsx-11.mit.edu.

1. Problems with 1.3.55

I compiled the 1.3.55 kernel, no problem, booted the system, no problem.
Dialed in with dip(whatever version that comes on Slackware 3.0), and
everything worked fine.  Until the modem dropped carrier(you have to love
the phone company).  Then, I reran dip to establish the connection, dip
had no problem, but suddenly everything I tried to connect to gave me the
old 'network is unavailable'  When I rebooted the system, everything
worked again.  I am going to try 1.3.56, or go back to 45 if that doesn't
work.  I just thought that anyone encountering this problem should be
aware that they are not alone.
