Alt-F1... F6 virtual consoles doesn't work when X runs. Why???

Post by Catrinel Catrines » Wed, 26 Jul 1995 04:00:00

Hi

When I'm using X, I cannot use the virtual consoles tty1 - tty6 (Alt-F1 ...F6)
anymore. After closing X, I can see on tty7 (Alt-F7), all messages from the
X server and I can use again all tty1 -6.
I have kernel 1.2.8 and XF86 3.1.1 .

Can somebody help me because I need the other text-consoles during X-sessions.

Thanks Catrinel

You need to use CTL-ALT(F1-F6) to switch consoles. Alt-F7 will get you
back to the X-console. If you're already trying that, I don't know, then.

Try Ctrl-Alt-F(1-6)  ...  This should work for you.  When in text mode, use
just Alt-F(1-6) again. (Or Alt-F7 or such to get back to X.)

Then you're in X, you have to use the control key as well (i.e. Ctrl+Alt+F1,
Ctrl+Alt+F2, ...)
