need help with swap partition problem

I think I have messed up somewhere. swapon -a says
  bash# /sbin/swapon -a
  swapon: /dev/hda1: Invalid argument
and top gives
-------
  Mem:  31072K av, 25640K used,  5432K free, 19576K shrd,  1540K buff
  Swap:     0K av,     0K used,     0K free               13452K cached
------
which is bad, as I see it, since fdisk  tells me otherwise.
-----
  Disk /dev/hda: 64 heads, 63 sectors, 622 cylinders
  Units = cylinders of 4032 * 512 bytes

Device Boot   Begin    Start      End   Blocks   Id  System
  /dev/hda1            1        1       33    66496+  82  Linux swap
  /dev/hda2           34       34      622  1187424   83  Linux native
------
Unfortunately, the man-pages do net help me here. Any help
at all is very welcome. Otherwise, things work or else I wouln't
have been able to post this message.

please don't mail respond to the default adress since may internet
provider has not yet managed to provide that. If you don't like

Thanks

We will need the contents of '/etc/fstab'. Could you post that and also
email it to myself?

Cheers,
Timothy

1. Need help with partitions (Swap)

I am very new to Linux and would love to install a copy of Mandrake V6.0
onto my CPU.
I created an 800m primary Linux ex2 partition with Partition magic V4.0
and have 3 more partitions 700m each . What I need to know is how do I
create a swap partition, and can I do this from Partition Magic 4?. Disk
druid is not making any sense. I cant seem to create a swap partition
with Disk Druid .That is all I need to know so I can carry on with the
installation !!!.
Please Help as I don't know what else to do!.
My specs..............
AMD K-6 (2) 3d-350mgh
32meg Ram (core for you unix types)
