NOKIA xx10 PROTOCOL SPECIFICATION for their DAU-3 Cellular Cable

NOKIA xx10 PROTOCOL SPECIFICATION for their DAU-3 Cellular Cable

Post by Paolo Ventafridd » Sat, 08 Mar 1997 04:00:00

Hello everybody,
        I own a Nokia 2110 cellular phone, and I recently bought a DAU-3 cheap c
able.
This cable comes with a TAPI software for Windows. Phone and Pc talk each other,
 and
there are many interesting things one can do. Unfortunatly, no proto specificati
ons!
I use Linux, and I need to write the driver for this interface.
Before going down to decoding the protocol with an analyzer I wonder if somebody
out there already did this and is willing to share its work.
Otherwise, I am looking for people to work on this project together.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Please reply (also) with email, I will summarize in the newsgroup.

Greets Paolo

See Al Stevens column in the February (?) 1997 issue of Dr. Dobbs.
In it he talks about a serial line protocol analyzer made by
running a passthru program on a 3rd PC connected between the
two units in question. This passthru system is using two serial
ports to listen to both devices and write to the other. It displays
in realtime on split screen (?) the data bytes being sent by
each unit.

1. kinternet, ppp, irda & nokia 6210 cellular phone modem

hi,

on my dell-inspiron7500-suse7.3-box i'm trying
to establish a ppp-conection to my provider
via the ir-port using the built-in modem of
my nokia 6210 and kinternet but i never get
across the first ppp-packet sent before pppd
dies with err-code 16.

i've set up the irda-system as usual and have
checked with more /proc/net/irda/discovery
that my laptop sees the cellular, i.e.:

IrLMP: Discovery log:
nickname: Nokia 6210, hint: 0xb125, saddr:
0x804305ce, daddr: 0x11790000

also, with irdadump i've checked that there
is ir-traffic between the cellular and the
laptop.
next i've used yast2 to create a new provider
which adds something like this the my
wvdial.conf file

 > more /etc/wvdial.conf
[Dialer modem1]
Baud=115200
Dial Command=ATDT
Dial Prefix=
Init1=ATZ
Init2=AT&FV1E0&D2&S0&C1S0=0
Init3=AT+CBST=0,0,1;+CHSN=1,0,0,0
Init4=ATS7=60+CBST=,,1;+DS=3,0;&K3
Init8=
Init9=ATX3
Modem=/dev/ircomm0
YaST2 Record=modem

[Dialer Nokia_6210]
Ask Password=0
Auto DNS=1
Auto Reconnect=0
DNS1=
DNS2=
Demand=no
Idle Seconds=3600
Inherits=Dialer modem1
Password=*********
Phone=*********
Provider=Nokia_6210
Username=**********
YaST2 Record=provider

the various init-strings i grabed from
a windooze setup of the nokia 6210 which
works without problem .....!"$%&/()=?

so now, when i use 'kinternet' to connect to my
cooperates site i only get up to the CONNECT
(so. hand-shaking and all that seems to work well)
after that kinternet tries to exchange username
and passwd several times but fails and the
pppd daemon dies with exit code 16.

checking the messages i get
# tail -n 20 /var/log/messages
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: Plugin passwordfd.so loaded.
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: Perms of /dev/ircomm0 are ok, no 'mesg
n' neccesary.
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: using channel 6
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: Using interface ppp0
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ircomm0
Apr 28 22:24:02 dell1 pppd[4928]: sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap
0x0> <magic 0xcbb0a408> <pcomp> <accomp>]
Apr 28 22:24:10 dell1 last message repeated 4 times
Apr 28 22:24:10 dell1 pppd[4928]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
Apr 28 22:24:10 dell1 pppd[4928]: Modem hangup
Apr 28 22:24:10 dell1 pppd[4928]: Connection terminated.
Apr 28 22:24:10 dell1 pppd[4928]: Exit.

if i compare this to my 'usual' logins via my
pcmcia-modem (which works just fine) it seems
that pppd is waiting for some kind of 'rcvd' after
the first 'pppd[4928]: sent...' but never gets it ?

your help and any clue on whats wrong here would be
most appreciated.

thanks,
wolfram
