The binary ones will more than likely not work (different glibc version).
Your best bet is to get the source RPMs and recompile.

Besides, you need the rpm ugrade for 6.1 (version 3.0.5) or you won't
even be able to unpack them; not even the source rpm files.

Cant you just have to version of glibc at the same time? Is it possible?

It's possible in theory, but I don't know of any rh7-compat-glibc RPMs out
there. It would need to be an RPM anyway to keep the dependencies in RPM
happy...

Anyway, the code should have little to no trouble compiling in a RH6.x
environment.

1. Can't install RPM V4 on RedHat 6.1

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade my Sendmail installation on my RedHat 6.1 box. I
downloaded the RPM for it from the RedHat site
(sendmail-8.11.0-8.src.rpm). However, when I try to install it, I got
the error 'only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this
version of RPM'.

So I tried to install a newer version of RPM (I have 3.0-6.0). I
downloaded the rpm-4_0-4_src.rpm. However, I get the same error message
when I try to install that as well. I tried to install it in conjunction
with updated versions of popt and rpm-build as suggested elsewhere in
this newsgroup, but none of them would install either.

Any help would be appreciated.
