There are several issues in your recipe that I would argue with.
In particular I don't see why you need PartitionMagic or fips.

I would start by using DOS fdisk (or Linux fdisk, if necessary)
to make a DOS/Windows partition of the required size,
and then install Windows.

Then I'd use Linux fdisk to partition the rest of the disk --
or just install Linux, and partition the disk during the installation.

I think one is usually advised to make the swap partition
twice the size of one's RAM,
so 100MB is probably rather small.

I realize all of this. I mereley put this guide here to help those who
don't know how to do this.  All of this is assuming you already have
windows installed (even though step one was to install windows) Swap
partitions usually are suposed to be double the size of your ram, but
I use about 180MB for mine and it works fine. Your Swap partition size
will vary depending on what kind of applications you run and the
function of the system

There is no such rule.

It's not a _rule_.
It is however standard advice, eg from the RedHat Installalation Guide:

" A swap partition (at least 32 MB) ? swap partitions are used to
support virtual memory. In other words, data is written to a swap partition
when there is not enough RAM to store the data your system is processing.
The size of your swap partition should be equal to twice your computer's
RAM, or 32 MB, whichever amount is larger."

1. GRUB boot gurus - tricky dual boot howto?

I have Linux installed on hda10, Win98 on hda1 and Win2k on sda1 (SCSI).
I have my BIOS set up to boot the SCSI device (Win 2k) first. On hda, I
have LILO installed so I can boot either Win98 or Linux (its a legacy
disk). If I set the BIOS to boot the IDE device (hda1) it boots Win98
via LILO as default, with the option of booting Linux. All this works
fine and dandy.

Again, I normally have the BIOS set to boot the SCSI disk first.

Assuming that I want to boot the SCSI disk first (Win2K), how do I set
up Grub to boot Win98? I can boot Linux via Grub:

root (hd1,9)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz
boot

This works fine. How do I boot Win98 then?

I tried:
map (hd0) (hd1)
map (hd1) (hd0)
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
boot

but it just hangs. On the IDE device (/dev/hda) I have LILO installed in
its MBR, if that affects anything.

Any GRUB gurus out there?

Thanks!
