Problem with dual Serial/VGA console

Problem with dual Serial/VGA console

Post by Grant Edwar » Sat, 13 Apr 2002 07:03:04

I've got a system configured for both serial and VGA consoles.
Kernel messages show up on both, but messages from rc scripts
and daemons only show up on one.

If I do

 kernel /boot/bzImage console=ttyS0,57600n8 console=tty0

The non-kernel stuff shows up on tty0.  If the two "console"
statements are swapped, the non-kernel stuff shows up on the
serial port.  AFAICT, non-kernel stuff is sent to the last of
the specified consoles.

Is there a simple way to get non-kernel stuff to show up on
both consoles?

1. No VGA/Serial Console in i386 Linux 2.0.x

I have seen patches to run i386 2.0.x on a machine with no video (no VGA, no
EGA, no nothing).  I have also seen patches to run 2.0.x over a serial
console.  I know these capabilities are part of 2.1.x -- can anybody point me
to resources for these patches for 2.0.x?

Thank you very much.
