point to point route to host using 2nd nic for private backups?

Post by Bogl » Wed, 19 Mar 2003 05:08:54

we have solaris servers w/ 2 nic cards each including a netbackup
server.  we plan on running backups using a "private" network that we
supposedly will create using the 2nd nics of all the servers.  whats
the best way to do this?

all i can think of right now is putting direct host routes in the
routing table pointing the secondary nics of all backup clients to the
netbackup server.  the other issue is how to configure netbackup to
use a specific nic?

thanks.

1. tunnel point to point vs physical point to point

If you have 2 systems on a point to point link you would address them
by a /30 block? When creating 'gre' tunnel you can use /32 for example
ip addr add 1.0.0.1 peer 1.0.0.2 dev mydev.

why can't /32 of arbitray addressing be used on a point to point
between 2 systems?
